How to Define Toddler Curls Without Crunch | T is for Tame

If your toddler's curls are coming out defined but crunchy, the product is the problem. Crunch happens when a formula is too heavy, too high in hold ingredients, or contains drying alcohols that stiffen the hair as they dry. None of that is necessary.

Here's how to get defined, soft, bouncy curls without any of it.

Start with clean, nourished hair

Product performance starts with the wash. Use our Taming Shampoo followed by our Taming Conditioner to build in moisture before you even start styling. Toddler curls hold definition best when the hair is properly hydrated at the base level.

Apply Taming Cream on wet hair

After the wash and while hair is still wet, apply our Taming Cream through the mid-lengths and ends. Work it through with your fingers, scrunching upward to encourage the curl pattern. The cream adds moisture and softness without weighing curls down or coating them in a way that creates crunch as they dry.

Use Taming Gel only where you need hold

If you want the curls to hold their shape through the day, follow with our Taming Gel on the sections that tend to frizz or loosen. Apply a small amount and scrunch — don't smooth. The alcohol-free formula holds without drying, which means the curl stays soft even after the product sets.

Let it dry without touching it

The most common reason toddler curls lose definition is touching them while they're drying. Let the hair dry naturally or use a diffuser on low heat. Once completely dry, you can scrunch out any residual stiffness with clean hands.
