5 Easy Summer Hairstyles for Kids That Actually Hold

A kids' hairstyle that looks great at 8am and collapses by 10am isn't really a hairstyle — it's decorative. In summer, with heat and sweat and constant outdoor activity, the wrong style or the wrong products mean you're redoing things constantly.

Here are five styles that hold through a full summer day, and exactly what makes them work.

1. The High Ponytail

The classic for a reason. It keeps hair off the neck (critical in summer heat), holds shape through sweating and activity, and takes under a minute.

Make it last: Work a small amount of Taming Gel through damp hair before pulling back. Smooth the hairline with the Taming Gel Wand once the ponytail is in.

2. Double Pigtails

Better than a single ponytail for fine or slippery hair. Splitting the weight between two elastics gives each tie better grip — and it's harder for younger kids to pull them out themselves.

Make it last: Part precisely down the center, work gel through each section before tying, smooth flyaways with the Gel Wand after both pigtails are in.

3. French Braid

Holds shape incredibly well — the braid structure acts as its own anchor against heat and activity. Hair stays completely off the face.

Make it last: Braid on slightly damp hair with a small amount of Taming Gel worked through beforehand. The gel gives individual strands grip so they don't slip out of the braid over time.

4. Two Space Buns

Summer-appropriate and genuinely fun. Space buns hold as well as pigtails with the added benefit of staying compact through high-activity play.

Make it last: Same approach as pigtails — gel, elastics, smooth the buns after securing to keep them neat.

5. Half-Up, Half-Down with a Twist

Great for kids who want their hair partly down but out of their face. Gather the top section, twist once or twice, and secure. The twist adds texture that holds better than a straight pull-back.

Make it last: Apply Taming Cream through the loose lower section before styling to keep it manageable through the day.
