Best Hair Products for Babies Under One | T is for Tame

Baby hair looks simple — fine, soft, maybe a little wispy — but it's also the most delicate it will ever be. In the first year, the scalp is still developing its own protective barrier, which makes it more sensitive to harsh ingredients than older children's or adult skin.

Here's what to look for, what to avoid, and which products are safe to use from the newborn stage.

What to avoid on baby hair

Sulfates, synthetic fragrances, alcohol, and dyes are the main ingredients to avoid in the first year. The scalp absorbs what you put on it, and the barrier function is still maturing. Anything harsh or stripping on baby skin can cause irritation, dryness, or discomfort.

What baby hair actually needs

In most cases, baby hair needs very little. A gentle shampoo for wash days, a light detangler if tangles are forming, and something to smooth flyaways and cradle cap if that's present. Less is more at this stage.

T is for Tame products safe from newborn stage

Our Taming Cream is safe for babies from birth. It smooths newborn flyaways, softens hair, and controls the tiny frizz that shows up even on the finest baby hair. The formula is free from sulfates, synthetic fragrances, and harsh chemicals.

Our Taming & Detangling Spray is also safe for babies and works gently on the fine hair that starts to develop curls or tangles around 6–12 months. Apply as needed and work through with your fingers or a soft brush.

Our Taming Shampoo is gentle enough for the most sensitive scalps and tear-free, making it a practical choice for the bath routine from very early on.
