The No-Tears Detangling Routine for Mornings That Run Late

For a lot of families, detangling is the hardest part of the morning routine. Not the styling, not the getting dressed — the brushing. And usually it's because it's being done without the right product, the right tool, or enough time built in for it to go smoothly.

Here's a routine that fixes all three of those problems.

Step 1: Apply Detangling Spray Before You Pick Up the Brush

Brushing dry, unprepped hair through a knot is what causes the pull and the pain. The solution is adding slip before the brush touches the hair.

Spray our Taming & Detangling Spray through the sections you're about to work on. Wait 10 to 15 seconds, then start. The knots release instead of tighten, the process is faster, and the experience is dramatically less painful. You can use it on dry or damp hair — both work.

Step 2: Use a Brush That Works With the Knot, Not Against It

The wrong brush makes detangling take twice as long and hurt twice as much. Our Cat Brush has a ventilated base that flexes when it meets resistance instead of dragging through it. That flex is what makes it gentler — knots open rather than catch.

Kids also tend to respond better to it because the shape is approachable. It doesn't look like the brush they associate with pulling.

Step 3: Work Bottom to Top, One Section at a Time

Start at the ends. Hold the hair above where you're brushing so the pull is absorbed by your hand, not the scalp. Work up gradually, small section by small section. This is the technique that converts detangling from a battle into just a task.

Step 4: Finish and Move On

Once detangled, style as needed. The whole sequence — spray, brush bottom to top, style — should take under four minutes on most kids' hair once it becomes routine.

Build it in the same order every morning and it stops being a negotiation.
